Die 10 Regeln, hier vor Ort

Wolfgangsee · Sportcamp Raudaschl

Safety sagt: „Wer weiß, wo was los ist, fährt entspannter.

Vom 1. Juli bis 31. August ruhen Verbrennungsmotoren am See.

Lake Wolfgangsee · Sportcamp Raudaschl

The headings are the same worldwide. The addition applies to this water and this centre.

1Check Weather and Surroundings

Safety says: „Your day on the water starts with a quick look up: check the weather, wind, and waves - and you set off prepared, relaxed, and knowing your spot.“

Always check the weather forecast, familiarize yourself with your surroundings, and continuously monitor the wind, waves, and currents. Conditions change rapidly—always be prepared.

At Lake Wolfgangsee Experience (to be confirmed)The storm warning light on Lake Wolfgangsee often comes late or not at all. So we look ourselves: sky, wind, the Schafberg. When a cold front is forecast we stop renting out SUPs and bring everyone in by motorboat fifteen minutes before the wind arrives.

2Always with a Buddy or Supervision

Safety says: „Water sports are best enjoyed together - with someone by your side who looks out for you and shares the experience.“

Never go out on the water alone. Check in and out, share your plan, and keep a constant eye on each other. Children who cannot swim must always be supervised within arm's reach.

At Lake Wolfgangsee House ruleIn a course there are at most four people per instructor, and the instructor is always alongside in the inflatable. Rentals come with the rescue service: if you drift off, we bring you back.

3Know the Rules & Zones

Safety says: „Know the rules of your spot and you move like a local: zones, buoys, and flags show you where your sport works best.“

Inform yourself about the specific laws, regulations, and codes of conduct that apply to your water sport, and obey them strictly. Use designated zones according to their intended purpose.

At Lake Wolfgangsee House rule (to be confirmed)The yellow buoys are launch and landing lanes. Boats leave and return fast there, don't cross them. In the camp, swimming is not allowed at the front left where sailing boats moor, nor in the motorboat entrance. Within the 200-metre shore zone motorboats only move to moor and cast off.

4Watch for Others

Safety says: „A quick glance at the people around you makes you a guardian angel: those who look early can help before help is even needed.“

Learn how to spot water emergencies early and react calmly. Call for professional emergency services immediately and never compromise your own safety.

At Lake Wolfgangsee ExperienceFor a wing foil rescue we approach upwind at idle and call out first. The person first, then the gear. And: a swimmer without a buoy is invisible to a ship, even three metres away.

5Secure Entry & Exit Points

Safety says: „Sort out your entry and exit before you start - you'll get in relaxed and always know how to get back ashore with ease.“

Evaluate your entry and exit paths beforehand. Always enter the water feet-first—never dive head-first into unknown waters. Always identify alternative exit routes.

At Lake Wolfgangsee ExperienceNo entry or exit point here is regulated by the authorities. The slipway is the safe exit, anyone can get out there. The swimming ladder is the weak spot, anyone exhausted struggles to climb it.

6Education & Limits

Safety says: „Every bit of training makes your playground bigger: the more you learn, the more you can trust yourself - and truly enjoy your skills.“

Be honest with yourself. Do not overestimate your capabilities and have the confidence to say no when facing peer pressure. Prioritize structured education and continuous training. (Divers set a good example here: in diving, training and continuing education are the standard.)

At Lake Wolfgangsee House ruleWing foiling looks far easier than it is. Before every course we ask about swimming ability, weak swimmers wear a vest. The lake gets deep quickly close to shore, don't underestimate it.

7Always Proper Equipment

Safety says: „Good gear feels good: it keeps you warm, makes you visible, and lets you enjoy what you love without a worry.“

Always wear approved protective equipment tailored to your weight and activity type. Choose your complete gear setup based on water temperature, current weather, and sport, and maintain it regularly.

At Lake Wolfgangsee House ruleA safety system is mandatory, which one depends on the sport. Wing foil beginners: wetsuit, vest, helmet, board and wing leash. In the windsurf course the instructor's boat provides the safety cover, because a vest can become dangerous under the sail. On a SUP on the lake: a swim buoy instead of a leash if you're not a confident swimmer.

8Keep Your Distance – Protect Swimmers, Divers, and Others

Safety says: „Keeping a good distance gives everyone in the water room to breathe - swimmers, divers, and you. That is the mark of a true waterman.“

Swimmers and divers are extremely difficult to spot in open water. Whether you operate a motorboat, sailboat, jet ski, kiteboard, or SUP—maintain a safe safety buffer and remain highly vigilant.

At Lake Wolfgangsee Experience (to be confirmed)Divers enter and exit at the Gamsjäger. As a kiter or winger keep well off the shore there. A dive boat is not a turning mark. Keep at least 50 metres from ferries and dive flags.

9Adjust Your Speed & Remain Absolutely Sober

Safety says: „Slow and clear-headed near the shore - that keeps the day beautiful for everyone on and in the water.“

Operate at a slow, safe speed when near shores and highly populated areas. Your wake and your reaction time are your responsibility. Alcohol, illicit drugs, and impairing medications have no place on the water.

At Lake Wolfgangsee Law (to be confirmed)Near the shore we ease off the throttle. 10 km/h applies in the 200-metre zone, 15 km/h in the narrows. From 1 July to 31 August combustion engines rest on the lake.

10Enjoy & Protect Nature

Safety says: „Clear water and living shorelines are your playground: enjoy nature and leave it as beautiful as you found it.“

We are guests in a highly fragile ecosystem. Enjoy the natural environment, pack out all of your trash, leave no physical trace behind, and treat wildlife and flora with deep respect.

At Lake Wolfgangsee Law (to be confirmed)Lake Wolfgangsee is of drinking water quality. Reed belts and nature reserves stay untouched, nothing goes into the lake, everything comes back with you.
